Trying to plan a visit to South Wales this coming summer .. besides the beautiful scenery i want to visit the birthplace of my grandfather (a keen biker) and the places were my mother spent her early childhood, He came from Ebbe Vale and they also lived in Beaufort...i would be gratefull for any info on places to see in the area...and recomendations for B&B/small Hotels....Thank's in advance....Boirche.

If you're going to Ebbw Vale I would recommend a strong chain for the bike if your leaving it unattended.

There's plenty of B&B's in the Brecon area which isn't far from Ebbw Vale.

Castle Inn does Camping/Bunk House & B&B. The food is good too.

Being local most of us haven't stayed in many of the differnt ones available.

Here's a link to Brecon B&B's http://www.bedandbreakfast-directory.co.uk/results.asp?town=Brecon&county=Powys&country=Wales

That's rich from some fooka "near Carediff" !

The valleys are beautiful these days, because there's nothing there to spoil it !
To be close to Beaufort and in glorious riding country away from that nasty Heads of the Valleys Road , there are plenty of places down in Crickhowell, just over the moors and down the valley.

Boirche. Can you PM me any details of ya Grandad..I am from Beaufort but unfortunately moved to Sheffield some time ago, but as they say "You can take the boy out of the Valley but you can't take the Valley out of the boy" ;)

Fookin Carediff ! :banghead: :mmmm

As PW says, stay somewhere north of the A465 Heads of the Valleys road.

http://www.skirridmountaininn.co.uk/ is a nice pub at the southern end of the Gospel Pass to Hay on Wye.

In Abergavenny, there are a couple of decent B&Bs just off the town centre on Hereford Road.
This one has off street parking

Follow the link for plenty of other B&B/pubs/hotels in the area.

You don't mention cost, and if that is not a consideration then the Bell at Skenfrith is the place to go - on the superb Abergavenny-Ross-on-Wye road in the Monnow Valley (one of the best roads in South Wales for a bike ride). Award winning food. http://www.skenfrith.co.uk/

Thank's folks for the info & links :thumb2, im not on a tight buget it will be more work commitments that will determine my stay, but i've found working away from home that it's usually the smaller accomodation that has the better breakfast etc, an im a country boy :fnikefork:beer:

It's all relative isn't it.

I lived in Ebbw Vale when the Steelworks was at its height, plus all the pits were in their prime...and the valleys were shitholes.

When I visit now, compared to the 60's and 70's the Valleys are indeed beautiful. OK, there's no work, but physically, they really are "beautiful".
Probably that outlook would wear off after a while if I moved back.

Anywhere south of Caerphilly is "Carediff" to me ;)
