Believing as I do in credit where it`s due,here is another good report about Southport Superbikes (I should have posted this a week ago,but was kinda busy).
I took my number 2 1100GS in for its 42000 mile service,and also asked for an intermittent misfire/stall to be checked.
As well as that,the day before,I had noticed some play in the rear wheel/bevel bearing.I have replaced this bearing myself on my R80g/s,but figured that,as Southport will be working on the 1100 anyway,they may as well check it out.
Just like when I booked my number 1 1100 in,(see my earlier posts for my good experience),Steve at the service desk was very pleasant and efficient,ensuring that a courtesy bike would be available,as my shiftwork meant taking the bike a day early then going back the next afternoon to pick up my bike.
On taking my bike in,Roy greeted me like a long lost friend,and chatted about biking in general,and,on realising that I would need a loan bike,saw the F650 that I borrowed last time.
'Oh,we don`t want you on that',he said,'Take this',and pointed to a 2004 R1100S !!
Well,road/sport bikes ain`t my bag,but ya coulda knocked me over with a feather!! I`ll skip the wrist/back/neck ache story and how my Sidi Couriers/Bell Moto 6 and Scott hologram goggles matched a BMW sport bike (NOT !! ).
Next afternoon,I collected my GS.Roy was as chatty as before, and so was Steve.My bike was clean,with none of the Jap dealer oily finger print/loose fastener scenario.
The service was done,time had been spent checking the poor running,and fine tuning the bike to the Remus race can and straight through link pipe.Also,the bearing play I detected turned out to be the large taper roller bearing,which they changed.
TOTAL COST (including vat)....£196.14
I don`t believe that anyone can criticise that,especially as the bike,at 42000 miles,now feels and runs as good as the other 1100 with 18000 miles on it.
I`m well pleased.
