Having searched .. and got fed up. Im wondering if you have a simple answer.

Secondhand sp3
Previous owner has only unlocked Region 1 (UK).
Can you only unlock 1 region with each code.
I have 1 unlock code provided with unit, which obviously has been used to get region 1.
Is that all I get for free ?
Unit is 2001 I think ,with version 4 city nav.

I will continue trawling through searches again. Now where was I ? , page 32 I think !!

Thankyou kind sirs and madams.

Oh dear!

:(

Still, Den, this isn't a problem that can't be fixed with a few £££s and the cooperation of the previous owner!

When the SPIII was launched, there was the SPIII and the SPIII Deluxe. The units were indentical, but you got different goodies in the box. One of the differences was just 1 region unlock code -v- all of Europe on the Deluxe.

No matter, v4 is so old, it probably hasn't even got the M25 on it!

Firstly, you need to get the ownership of the unit registered with Garmin. They will only do this if the unit hasn't previously been registered with them (possible) or on the say-so of the owner they have on their records.

Then go and buy yourself a shiney new Euro CN v7 upgrade and start using that. You'll get all of Europe and it'll be the latest roads to boot.

Greg

thanks for the clarification Greg.
Whats the current price for europe unlock anyone ?

Den...rather than looking at spending money on a new product, try using your charm on someone local who has a Garmin unit.....you can get a second unlock code so if you can find someone who has one, they can load their copy onto your unit and unlock it for the price of a few beers.

In answer to your question though, I dunno exactly but they're bloody expensive

EDIT: £110 !!!!

Just as a matter of interest, and purely for research purposes you understand, I just found several crackz sites that have unlock codes or code generators, plus several places to d/load CN7 and various other versions of the software.

If you wanted to conduct the same 'research' for educational reasons only, Google is indeed your friend ;)

I love you all and would like to have your babies :rose :rose :rose :rose :rose :rose :rose :rose :rose :rose :rose :rose :rose :rose :rose :rose :rose :rose :rose :rose :rose :rose :rose :rose :rose :rose :rose

I guess I must just not be as good at research as Fanum. Despite several attempts I still haven't been able to revive my SP111.

what's particularly galling is that it is my OWN unit bought from new. I just uploaded the original onto a now dead PC and never noted any of the codes (arse, I know)

I've sent off an email to Garmin Support - who are apparantly rather busy at the moment.

Can you access the HD of the 'dead' pc???

Assuming you allowed the default position, you'll find the unlock code in a file at c:/Programs/Garmin/unlock_code.unl

If you have a new PC, just plug in the old HD as a slave (change the jumpers on the back face of it to 'slave') on the end of the ribbon cable and boot up as normal.......the new PC should find it and you can browse to it ;)

(but obviously it'll now be at e:/ etc etc etc, or whatever the old drive is now seen as)

Sorry, probably not making too much sense- Ms Artois in the house...but you should be able to work it out....

IIRC, there's also a 'retrieve unlock code' from the garmin site...might be worth a poke around.

Fanum - Ms Artois or not - I would have had no idea how to do any of that --- access a hard drive..... I think not :homer

Mouse, surprisingly enought for me, I still had the box, the receipt and all the manuals, discs etc. (wife was most surprised !) - no sign of a yellow bit of paper.

HOWEVER, Garmin techie boys came up with the goods and emailed me my unlock code, based on my unit's serial number or summat.

Now, I'll be able to find my way to my digs at the hograost....
