Fantastic place, I have visited the(Alberca) place four times now, first was 15 years ago on a hired Honda 500 from Madrid. Roads up to Alberca are great, better than Norway etc, etc?? Well, perhaps not 10 out of 10, 7/9 would be my score. Real Spain is great for biking, I think we don't use it enough, you can take your own bike down, or just hire, had new GS from main BMW Dealer in Bercelona, you can get same service from several big towns in Spain. Portugal is also very interesting for biking, not expensive if you look hard, ie small hotels and small restaurants etc. Our hotel, twin room in Alberca last year was £12 each, no breakfast!! Hotel in Burgau, Algarve at this time of year, £6.25 each per night, no breakfast!!! Had one night there last month, yes, look and you will find. Winter break, cheap flight to Lisbon or Faro, car & bike hire, not expensive, keep bike below 500cc, you can get real bargains😀😀. Time to think about getting away for some sun & bike fun.

Hello E
What sort temperature is it likely to be down there be at this time of year then ?

Hi Boatman, this weekend has been clear sky's and 18/20 from 11.30 till 3.30 daytime and dropping to lows of 8/10 at night. In a shelted spot in the sun you could lie in you boxers and you would get burnt. But if you get bad weather and it rains, it knows how to rain down here, the Algarve is similar weather wise. Northern Spain is very cold this time of year so best avoided, try to stay south or around the Med for the warmer weather.

Algarve can be nice, I use the Norwegian weather site for forecasts - yr.no. You can enter - Alvor or Burgau etc, forecast, temps will come up. Look at Burgau Live Web Cam, you can see nice blue sky most days yr. no is good here too, they have local web cams!! I have hired bikes in The Algarve a few times, I used www.motorent.pt. Had 250's 600's nice people to deal with, some really nice path's along the coast from Lagos heading west Alvor is a nice place to stay, you can ride in land for a few miles, step back in time villiages with step back in time prices for tea & cake etc. feel free to ask, I know West Algarve well. www.offroadtours.com could be of interest for some.

Visited La Alberca a few years ago when the footy Euro Championships were on in Portugal. We met Time Ewers (ITV reporter) and his son outside a bar, he saw our biking gear and invited us over for a drink. Tim was on his way to cover the footy and decided to make it a biking road trip with his son. I think they were on Hondas. La Alberca is a fascinating place, it is like going back a couple of hundred years, really olde worlde.

At the moment weather is poor down here in the Algarve I know as I live here very overcast and showers but it will improve
