Spanish Hotels

Hi,
can anyone tell me the names of any cheap hotels in Spain, i use Premier Classe, Etap, Campanile etc in France but don't know the Spanish equivalent ?

Always seems such a shame to travel and stay in anodyne corporate hotels. Spain is full of small hotels and guest houses. How about staying in a few of those for a more authentic experience?

My Spanish is poor, I'm poor, corporate hotels are cheaper, I'm fussy about what i eat and prefer to go out and choose my own, I'm not a people person so prefer to be left alone !

I enjoyed the experience of using lots of cheap random Spanish hotels last year, despite not being able to speak Spanish it was initially a daunting experience. Rolling up to a perspective location mid afternoon and asking for habitacion. The odd place I had booked via booking.com, but most where ad hoc. The beauty of random places was that owners where most willing to go out of their way to help, at 1 the locals even asked the owner to allow me to park the bike in their private garage, one even took his car out of the garage so I could put the bike in. Several of them (when I turned up mid afternoon) would point me in the direction of the salon for the lunch serving (menu del dia) the rooms where around €20-€25 with 3 course lunch & wine for €8-€12. Spanish hotels are something you should try and not avoid

Try Hotels and Hostals on booking.com and check them out on Tripadvisor

There some crackers at Euro 15 per head per night and are the quality of 3 star Hotels here.

Did the Picos last year with my youngest on his F800s we were surprised at the good value out there.

Only speak a little Spanish but if you give it a try they are pretty helpful.

I have traveled through Spain several times, small hotels are so much better, real Spain is underestimated by so many. Seriously don't worry about anything, you could try some basic Spanish, it's not difficult, makes life more interesting�� Get basic Spanish dics, that's what I did. Enjoy, I have said it before on here, try a small place called La Alberca, fantastic roads, South west of Salamanca.

I generally find the Spanish hostals to be even better value compared to their hotels.

You're wasting your time looking for 'chain' hotels in Spain. The few that we have are located in industrial centres, near airports, etc.

But the comments above are all correct, one of the great things about travelling in Spain is the range of good value, family run hotels and 'hostals', and more and more 'casas rurales' which are a bit like farmhouse B&Bs.

The system is a bit arcane if you are not used to it, so I explained all the details on my blog.

For on-line reservations, booking.com* is really well represented and in general you can trust the reviews - unlike TripAdvisor, whose reviewers just talk about themsleves!

as your on the route I'm taking ill just stop with you ! Seriously thanks for the info, i love the area you are in, came though it several times in the last few years, usually stay near Ainsa, then head towards Roses then back through France, this year I'm taking boat to Bilbao then doing Pyrenees end to end then back on different route so have covered most of the smaller roads in the pyrenees over the past few years.

No probs Alan, in fact one of the best cheap hostals* that I know of is in La Pobla de Segur - fifteen minutes walk away from my 'base' when I'm in the Pyrenees. There's also a brilliant new pizza cafe** in the plaça just around the corner - where you can sit on the terrace looking at all the guys who rely on their satnaffs riding up into the town towards the Post Office instead of tuning right along the N260 - what fun

Ainsa is great, but I never stay there as it's so close to 'home'. If you haven't been there already try looking for digs at Isaba and Ripoll, bot great bass to explore from as well as having good digs just for a night and some life - small villages can be a bit too quiet! - and chuce of cafes and restaurants for you to pick your own diet.

* I just checked a date at random, €15 for a single room with breakfast, which I know to be great, standard 'continental' plus toasted country bread with a choice of cheeses, patés charcuterie, etc. NB the standard rooms have their own bathroom down the corridor with key, but they don't have a window to the outside of the building, but into a 'solar' so they are tad claustrophobic - just like a Formule really

**I'm a careful eater too and normally I wouldn't think about pizza, but genuine home-made and the fact that the café is now the craik point of the village make all the difference And the owner used to work at Motocard in Andorra, so her English is fine!

As stated,for info,there's lots of little back street hotels of great quality and price...point the front wheel and find yourself there...
