Hi all, I'm new to this forum and would be grateful for some advise.
I'm planning to ride my oldish harley down to the costa blanca (Moraira) early sept. Booked on Plymouth - Santander 9 sept. return Sant.-Portsmouth 17 sept. Can anyone advise mid-way accomodation with secure bike parking + other useful tips if possible please? Although I have travelled all over Spain in a truck this is a new kind of adventure now i'm retired this year.:rob

Welcome to the site.

Personally, and it's just my preferred way of touring .. I like to wing it. That way i'm not tied to a schedule, have to be at a venue at a certain day or time.

It's never caught me out. I've never been stranded at half eight at night with no where to stay. I have stayed in some complete shitholes, but oddly, they are the places that I look back at with affection and a smile, rather than some luverly hotel / b&b that i've now forgotton about.

So wing it. Don't pre-plan, and you'll roll into a town somewhere, like the look of it and decide to stay there for the night.

So many of the hotels have parking round the back, underneath ... and i've only ever taken a disc lock with me .. :thumb2

I'm going to try Spain and Portugal on June but in a guided tour with Terracurva:Three Capes, www.terracurva.co.uk. I'm very excited with this tour, I think I couldn't do it by myself. Maybe next year I will try it.

Before I finished with HD's I used to do the Big Twin rally in Castellon, (a bit north of Valencia), the hostels we used to stay at were great, most of them would find somewhere for the bikes, prices are reasonable, they're clean, and are easy to find.
Last year we did about 3k on the GS over there, and did 50/50 with the tent, still no probs, well only one, getting off the ferry to face uk roads at the end of the holiday, it'll spoil you!!

Hi mate.

Arrive to any village and asking for acommodation, I think isn't necessary to book hotel previously, mid september is a low season for tourists. Tourist Information Offices are the best place to ask or anybody on the street you can do it.

I don't have disk lock, so never use it, but most of the hotels have a place to park.

Good luck.

As he says, seek out the one star 'hostals'. Most of them are more or less just like someone's house. You can usually get a basic single room for about £25. There are usually lots of them right in the middle of town centres.

Thanks for the advise on hotels. I'm also thinking of the camping option as the weather in early sept is pretty warm. Got all the kit but will have to make an extention to the small rack already fitted to the bike.

Really agree with Giles, don't tie yourself down especially out of season, you'll not be disappointed.
Me and Mrs St1cks find that one of the best parts of our adventures, usually land on our feet and have had some great finds too ! :D

Thanks for all the advice relating to hotels on route and I shall bear it in mind. Now begins the long wait for the start of this trip.Unfortunately I wil not be able to include the Costa del Sol as well as the Costa Blanca.

You probably know already cos youre a trucker and know the roads off by heart. Sounds like you need to meet up with the rest of the family for the holiday. Might be wrong though. Head to Zarogaza then A23 to Teruel (Toll Free) then Autoroute A7 south. Toll is about 7 euros or thereabouts. I love Moraira and pop down there once a week at least. :thumb2
Depending on your docking time. It is easily doable in one hit. Takes about 9 hrs road time.

Hi Nugget.
I lived in Moraira then Lliber from 1987-97. Most of the people I knew then have moved on,however if your father knew anyone from this era that would be interesting.I always wanted to ride the beautiful mountain roads etc. when I had time. Now retired am able to do so.Dream come true:

Hi everyone, also new to the site and planning a trip in Sept 12, from Santander, through Spain and Portugal and across to Morocco, down through Casablanca to Marakesh. Taking my camping gear but will do the odd B&B/hotel stop. Had also planned to wing it so am encouraged by some of the responses. Just got to sit on my hands through august!

motocamp

Theres a motocamp near Huesca (Anzanigo). Owner is as mad as a box of frogs but nice camping/chalets and it was really friendly when my wife and I were there. Beware of his cooking though:eek:

I think you may need to drop me a line. I also am retired, so time is my own. Snap in looking to ride in to Spain in September. My date's are a little before your's. And I intend to ride down france and cross in to Spain. What crossing? I'm easy.

Drop me a line here.
