Drill a TINY hole in the back and then tie onto the spark plug cable thingy with a piece of fishing line! Not too tight, so you can always pull off the cover and let it dangle when you need to access the plugs. If it comes off when riding then the fishing line should keep it dangling until you notice it's off!

My 2pence worth.

....or drill two small holes and use a small cable tie around the HT lead.

At least its just the spark plug cover at the BMF show at Kelso four years ago someone had a brand new cylinder head protector away off my 1150 in the car park and put their fu**ed one on in exchange. Thousands of bikers there and no one thought it was strange !
In another incident I've also had the plastic pannier fittings off the rear pillion pegs nicked.
