All this talk about 'brisk' spark plugs got me thinking. From what i can tell, they are an earth prongless plug replaced with peripheral earth electrode - ie they can spark from the centre to anywhere around the body along the path of least resistance .

What they won't do is provide more sparks per firing stroke - you only get one chance. They may give a 'fatter' spark, due to less resistance, i suppose.

So - what i'm getting to is - i'm not prepared to pay the price or service interval for these plugs. What i want is the multi-electrode plug made by NGK as sold by Halfords or similar.

Anyone tried these or know where to get them ?

Phil

i mentioned same rule of physics here, i think but someone produced a photo of one of these plugs sparking all over the shop at once and my argument fell apart :fiddle

dunno how they get round one of the most basic rules of electricity. a cynic might suggest photoshop. not me though, oh dear me no, i've been here before ;)

More likely they use a different power source to create multiple sparks within the duration the shutter is open. Way I see it, 1 fat spark or 3 thin ones, the coil is still delivering the same amount of energy, only the distribution is changing.

i cannot decide whether you are being serious or taking the piss.

different power source

shutter

I'm being serious. A photo of a spark plug tells you very little. Say for example you hooked a spark plug up to this tesla coil here ... http://nic.funet.fi/pub/sci/electrical/tesla/pictures/rq/rq_e800.gif
the pictures would be mighty impressive but they would tell you very little about how good the spark plug is :D

The shutter I was reffering to was the shutter on the camera takling the photo, if you have an ignition system simulating an engine running at 6000 rpm, thats 6000/60 = 100 sparks a second (assuming wasted spark system like airheads). So if the camera shutter is open for 250th of a second you will capture a picture of ~25 seperate sparks.

No you won't, not with those numbers, I meant 1/4 second, 250 milliseconds. And that is why I am not an accountant ;)

ahh, i see now. too early in the morning for me. sorry.

i only have an airhead. maybe they fit tesla coils to oilheads :D

I don't know the answer to that one either, but I can tell you that on the recent 3 Peaks challenge with five GS's I was constitently using less fuel whilst running Brisk plugs. I am now easily getting 210-220 before the warning light come on, whereas before fitting said plugs it was usually 190 -200.

Seems good value to me.:beerjug:

I would give them a go to see what happens just out of curiosity, but I can't find them for the airhead motor.

Thanks boxer, nice one. I'll post their reply in the airhead section in case anyone else wants them.
