Just started to do a 24,000 service on my GSA, never worked on a BM before I'm a BMW virgin, alway's had bikes made in England & J.A.PAN.

Done the tappets, easy, peasy. Plug's, filters & fluid's left to do.

Thought I would take out the plugs & fit new ones then take it for a run round to warm it up, then do the oil's.

Takes out the top plug's, then pulls the caps off the bottom plug's & the porcelain on the lower left is cracked from tip to base, now, the last people to have a spanner near these was a main dealer.

Could this have caused, what was called last week "a voltage spike" that reset my Power Commander back to base settings & caused it to dump an extra 7% of fuel in across the range & wiped nearly 100 miles off my tank range.

:nenau

More than likely you've hit something underneth to break the plug ( regardless of the plastic protector).

I see a few like that .

I could understand that if I went off road, but no marks on the plastic protector & I've never been off the tarmac with it.
