Having only experienced multi-branded franchises catering for sports bikes I'm not sure if this is the norm or SPC really are that good but feel I must add my tuppence worth for the service I have just experienced. Traded my Duke in for an 1150GS and have nothing but praise for the way the deal went. No huge discounts or massives 'gifts' just absolute professionalism and a fair wedge of advice etc. Deal from start to finish took about 2 weeks and that included servicing and prepping the bike. I felt absolutely confident in their abilities and am over the moon by the assistance given by all. Shall recommend to anyone and especially for the 'converts' like myself. Once again, cheers for all.:D :D

Hello AndyR34

As a new rider myself, 18 months, I purchased my very first bike, 1150R, and my second 1150GS, from SPC and on both purchases had a good service from them as well.

Now we all want to to see your GS, so be there 4th Ampshire Meet

Cheers

Mick

......Traded my Duke in for an 1150GS .....:D

Was that your Duke 999/748 thingy that I saw in their shop when I went for Globebuster talk?

What a dramatic change if it was? Why such a dramatic change? (just being nosey :D)

May have been!

Novice, it may well have been, I have tried not to return to the shop for a number of reasons. Firstly, I do miss it a little, and secondly I have been spending too much time enjoying my new one. What a difference but so much more fun. Got caught speeding in March and had a bit of a reality-check regarding my riding style etc etc. Decided I needed to appreciate the finer things in life, and maybe not end up dead or licence-free!
Don't really miss the riding, more like the Kudos, but the GS side of things seems just as, if not more sociable.
Ciao for now - AndyR.:beerjug:

I (also)have recently traded in my Ducati 996, for R1150GS Adventure.

What a surprise. I originally bought my Duc from Snells in Alton and was amazed at how good they were for sale, service, friendliness etc.

I traded the Duc for a BM at SPC - and I was even more surprised to find that SPC have the same 'professional ethos'. They're knowledgeable, friendly, and more than willing to help, give advice etc. I can't believe that there are 2 outstanding dealerships (different manufacturers) in such close proximity. Is there something in the local water?

Seriously 1 week start to finish for the deal to be done, and new bike delivered.

The only downside a puncture within first 80 miles, requiring 1 new tyre. Where do you get a new tyre at 4:00 pm on a Saturday during a Bank Holiday Weekend - No problem I gave SPC a call, and they sorted the problem without any hassle (except for the damage to the wallet for the new tyre), so that at least I could get the bike run in during the remainder of the weekend.

It's now getting its first service, so I'm looking forward to 'breaking the 4000rpm mark'

Thanks guys - considering my normal experiences with the motor industry you're a shining light. Fantastic example of how things should be done.

Phil-6X,

Is 'Rob' the tall one, slightly balding ?

Bob is the short guy with the grey hair who usually has someone sitting with him at his desk who he is studiously ignoring while blathering away on the telephone.

But don't call him Ron, even though there may be a passing resemblance to a comedian of restricted stature.

My original contact with SPC was with Jon who talked about the types of bikes. I came back the next week for test rides - which were organised last minute (i.e. I turned up on spec), Bob sold me the bike, Servicing fitted the tyre, part were most helpful in answering my dumb questions.

All my dealings with them have been on Saturdays, when they've been swamped with customers, and I had 4 separate test rides different bikes, which involved moving most of the bikes in the showroom.

My initial impression of the dealership is good - only time will tell for the rest.

If in doubt about how good these guys seem to be/are - time travel back to when Motorcycle City were trading.............

Gauloises and Pint6X I think you are missing the point.
The point is that SPC are 'Ideal for 1st time buyer' ;)
First time buyer wont have had to have dealt with service/parts department, and even Bob can be helpful if you are the right kinda punter; see http://www.ukgser.com/forums/showthread.php?threadid=22609&highlight=spc

Funny you should say that !
Within an hour of buying my GS from spc
i was dealing with the service/parts department

That was a couple of years ago and service has been fine
since.

Apart from the twat in parts :P

No point missed - SPC are genuinely helpful - but Bob can be a bit of a grumpy old git though.

I know they are considerably better than Park Lane, but then that probably applies to 98% of the BMW bike dealers in this country.

any bike shop can do a half decent job of selling a new bike out. act like your best mate, impress you with free nasty instant /machine dried powdered milk coffee and biscuits which for some reason impresses joe punter stupidly, suck yer teeth a lot when offering a trade in price on your spotless old girl and then smile a lot when the bankers draught is handed over..

the marque of a real helpful dealer is one who sorts your crap out on your bike at short notice, doesnt argue warrenty claims which are obvious as daylight and doesnt pull your trousers down when he services your bike..............its these areas bm tend to cock up on....................apart, of course, from the 'free coffee' argghhhhhhhhh

Re: SPC

Contrary to others good reports my experience was:-

Jan 2004 having decided on an ADV went into SPC with the cash to buy and used my normal sales test of mooching arround the bikes , clothing etc to see if anyone was interested in doing a deal. If a good salesman cannot pick up the blatant body language signals I am not interested - so walked. ( I used to train line managers how to sell)

Shortly afterwards in CW, Dorchester did the same test and after a suitable interval Dave approached me and did the deal plus clothing and bike accessories. Service/workshop (Wally and team)has been fine and Parts (Ian and Stuart) also very proactive. (Ian has now moved to run Sideways the KTM side of the group and Stuart is now Parts Manager)

Oophs
I don't think i'm welcome at spc anymore,
Miles the parts manager wasn't happy with
my comments,even though it wasn't him i
was refering too.
Shame really as he was the best parts person
i have delt with.

Every dealer is as good as the last time they sent us home happy and each as bad as the last time they didn't. I was happy when I bought my bike from SPC, I was less than happy over my bike taking 2.5 weeks for a blown shock and then being presented with a bill for £300 for a warranty job, though the former was a transaction masterminded by Jon and Bob and the debacle in the service department was no doubt a result of the service manager going AWOL. Still think the better dealers are the ones not distracted by shiney cars and girlies on reception desks.
