I've been playing with my new Starcom1 intercom thinghy... works great - phone, music - brill. (Haven't tried it with pillion yet).

Only problem is, I'm struggling to get a good fit of the speakers in my Schuberth Concept. They go in OK, but are very uncomfortable - squash my ears. I've tried moving them a couple times (no, the speakers!), but they don't seem to sit right, seem too high up.

Any tips from anyone who's been there, done that?

Also any tips on routing of mic cable? I've gone for the 'full face' style stick-on mic rather than a boom.

Ta muchly.

Is this the old model Concept? If so then I had the exact same problem. Felt like my ears had been in a vice after a few hours, problem worsened when wearing rubber ear plugs (foam was ok).

I'm afraid I never really solved the problem, I now wear either a Arai Tour X or Schuberth S1, both of which have adequate room and foam padding. I do remember reading a post suggesting applying a hot spoon to the polystyrene inside the helmet which makes sense, though not sure of the implications that would have to the helmet on the whole.

Also, Autocom will fit this for you, and will probably work it all out if you tell them your problem.

Cheers,

Mike

I used the "hot spoon method on two of the Schuberth Concepts and it works a treat. Very comfortable.

Hope that helps

Have you mounted them under the material? Its easy to do and, in the process, you will probably find you have to move/remove some of the "cotton wool". You can then get a good seating into the recesses. Also mount them as low down as possible (well, my ears seem to sit much lower in the helmet than I would have thought!). I don't know the Starcom units but, with the Autocom, taking off the foam covers can also help.

I used to suffer from painful ears but now find it all day comfortable. Takes a bit of time but well worth it and I haven't had to resort to the hot spoon method.

Give me a bell if you want to talk it through.

Cheers.

Speakers in the Schuberth are a problem. I was too chicken to start cutting bits of the actual helmet out or melting it with spoons but others seem to have done this with success.

I had the same problem where I eventually found a position that was OK until I added earplugs which make things sore again.

My solution was to take the speakers out and use earplugs with built in speakers (or monitors as they are sometimes refered to)

Autocom do a cable which I think is also compatible with the starcom which you can plug straight into. Works a treat!

At the beginning I couldn't get a good fit with speakers in my Concept 1, I took it to Autocom and they modified the pockets already in the Schuberth lining (by compressing the foam and effectively repositioning the pocket to where my ears were.

1. Talcum Powder on ears
2. helmet on
3. helmet off
4. note talc mark on helmet lining
5. detatch lining and gain access to polystyrene pocket
6. use hot spoon to compress foam to allow for repositioning of speaker to new required position.

Shortly after all that nonsense I went for custom moulded earplugs and done away with the speakers.

Best decision I ever made :thumb

Sorted!

Thanks for all the info... the answer was embarrasingly simple in the end.

I'd been trying to fit the speakers complete with their foam covers - about 50mm dia. I thought the Schubert cutouts were a kind of large concave section and was trying to locate the speakers there. Doh! :homer The covers were hurting the tops of my ears.

What I didn't realise until 3rd attempt was that there are small very distinct cutouts for the speakers, and having removed the foam covers from the speakers(these are simply velcroed together) the actual speaker units fitted easy-peasy. I put the speakers 'behind' the cotton-wool type padding, i.e. in contact with the polystyrene.

Result? Dead comfy, and brilliant sound straight into my earoles. Brill. :helmet
...and not a hot spoon in sight! :mmmm

Anyone got any links or info for purchasing ear phones for my nokia, I have a schuberth S1. Is bluetooth better than wired up speakers, the only bluetooth ear pieces I have seen have the mouth piece practically under your ear, does this work with a helmet on.
