Hi, Looking for some advice. I believe I may have been snapped by a fixed camera yesterday near Navan. Are fines and points transferable to N Ireland license? thanks

theyre working on it

the old man (uk car) was done 3-4 years ago and got 2 points

if he gets to 12 like uk you are 'banned' - doesnt go on uk licence tho

cant remember about the fine tho

It was announced recently that the PSNI and the Guards are to apply points in the other jurisdiction.
Not sure if it's started yet, though.

IF
you were on the Bike,
as that was probably (?) a forward facing camera - it didn't have a number plate to capture.
IF you were in a car,
in theory it IS now enforcable - since February.

I was on the bike and it was a rear facing camera. Will just have to wait and see. thanks for the feedback.

I wouldnt get into a fluster about it , there isnt that much cooperation
goin on just yet .
Alas , tho , Its coming soon .
Theres a Big push on for Co operation ,
There is a Garda , Being Based in Derry and an R.U.C. Constable being
Based here in Donegal .

I believe that only PARKING and related offences can be enforced between the authorities North and South at this moment in time. I wouldnt worry about the speeding aspect just yet unless you were stopped at the time of the offence, but as mentioned earlier...........it is coming !!!!!!!!!

Forgot to mention a friend of a friend who lives in N.I was arrested recently in the South for speeding (in a car by the way) not sure of how fast he was over the speed limit...... Anyway he spent the night in custody and was brought before the Judge the next day and was fined €1000 yes one thousand euros....... and the solicitor also billed him €1000... so a night in the cells and €2000 bill for his indescretion !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Speed enforcement is primarily done using Gatso vans, so if it was the old fixed grey box on a pole that flashed you, there's a good chance there wasn't even any film in it.

There are two of those fixed Gatso boxes on the N3 South of Navan IIRC.

i have it on 'Good Authority' :augie there's only 3 of those in the Republic with actual film in the actual camera at any one time.

'course the trick is to know which 3 it is at the time.

:D

+1

Yes Og, I've also been told that there are only about three cameras to go around all the fixed camera points and that usually, the film runs out fairly quickly:eek:
It also took about a year and a half after they were first introduced to get through teh tendering process to buy the film:confused:
So all in all, I'd say the chances of being caught on a foreign licence plate are fairly slim. But I wouldn't bet on it.

As long as it's not a P.S.N.I. Constable we will have nothing to worry about then...........................:D:D:D

I dont think we have anything to worry about , regardless.

The one that scares me all the more is , those that purport to
know their history and in honesty havent a Clue .
Probably one of the Reasons our wee country got itself into such an
awful mess ........ Jimmy .

Thanks ,for the Correction , but , do you think i need it ?.
