Interesting development last night after a ride out into Wales, the speedo stopped work for a few miles and then after it had rested, it woke up and started working again !

Any idea's as to why is may have happened ?

Cheers.

Hi Chris. May be rear abs/speed sensor starting to play up or worst case rear drive problem, Any warning lights come on?. Had same on the R speedo intermittent luckily just needed a new sensor.

pull the sensor, if it is covered in paste your FD is toast if not then check sensor cable and connections. If they all seem ok it is likely your sensor is about to fail. It is all an easy 30 min job. Less if you forego the cupa.

I'm glad someone else's does that. Mine did that on my Europe trip in June. I think it just gets a bit tired on long journeys and goes to sleep for a bit.

After a rest, it works again.

Talked to the previous owner about it, apparently it's been doing it for years.

Mine did the same and lit up the brake fault light. Not long after the front wheel locked up as I slowed for a junction and dropped the bike. The tyres were cold, and I've not been aware of the ABS cutting in, but the braking system is clearly A LOT more intelligent than I am.

Get that sensor sorted ASAP. Just like I did *NOT*.

That's what my bike shows.
The speedo fails to work, then the brake fail light stays lit
Are these connected?

Hi Ted. Yes, warning lights on, yellow triangle and brake failure light. Later on the speedo stopped working but about 10 miles on it restarted but the warning lights remained on. Booked in for an investigation. 25K on the clock.

Mine has done the same last week. I need to pull the sensor out of the FD. Hopefully it's not kakked with iron filings.

Sent via iPhone so expect strange words

Been into the dealers and an intermittent fault was found, said I could run the bike as it is or, replace the sensor, so for peace of mind, having a new one fitted.. Just thankful it wasn't more serous like FD.

Good news - My final drive oil is lovely and clean with absolutely no filings on the speedo sensor.

Bad news - The speedo cable connection is clean but speedo is still playing up so looks like I need a new speedo sensor.

This morning, the speedo was working fine but the brake failure light was on immediately. I could hear the ABS motor working as I rolled the bike down the drive to start the engine.

The battery voltage is fine. I have a voltmeter on the bike showing 14.1V and no significant drop when starting. The main earth was sorted a year ago and plastered with anti corrosion grease.

I was about to order a new speedo sensor, but is there anywhere else I should look?
