Here's a funny one. During the reci for the reci, my speedo cable broke, so I ordered a new one from keary's ( 98 R1100GS german import ). The new cable was identical to the old one but was 1040 mm long - too short. Old one was 1170 mm just right. Des the mechanic in keary's cant find any reference to a longer speedo cable for either my bike or even an 1150 ( same fittings ) or an 1150 adv. He's gone off to do a bit of digging.

My question here is, has anyone ever come across this problem before or have any suggestions as to where i might start looking for the correct part number.

Problem solved not 20 minutes ago by Kearys in little island. Apparantly the broken cable was a spurious item incorrectly made in terms of it's length. To allow for the extra length, the speedo drive was turned away from the bike by about 30 degress, which then of course meant that the new correct cable would appear to be too short.

Good spot by the lads in Keary's.

thats odd, i taught there was a stopper on the fork leg or hub that the speedo fits into. so when take it off its obvious exactly where it goes into again

I haven't looked at it properly yet, but the drive is now turned back to the correct position on the hub. Maybe there's more than one locating point.
