I have a problem with my audio when riding, have a SPII with an audio lead running under the tank to a point between my seat and tank, this allows me to connect my helmet to it, when I start off it works fine but as time goes on it starts to crackle when she speaks and then finally gives up completly. If I then disconnect my helmet from the lead and plug it directly into the SPII its ok, have replaced the lead under the tank but same problem, anyone any ideas??????. The only thing I could think of was electrical interference...

Cheers for any suggestions,

Mick

The Autocom lead which connects the SPIII to the Autocom unit has a bit of circuitry built into it. When I asked why (and why it cost the same as the National Debt) I was told it was to counteract interference between the two units (both of which were powered from the bike's power supply). I don't know whether this is 1. true or 2. relevant to your question - but it filled some time, didn't it?

Breakup

Hi Mick, had a similar problem last year with mine. Thought it was the unit cos sometimes it worked and sometimes it didn't just crackled. Proved to be the audio plug going into the jack at the rear of the gps. Good clean and a bit of contact cleaner in the jack and never had a problem since. Bit of bad planning I think to have a jack facing the elements.

Autocom Audio Cable

The Autocom cable is only equired if you are running an Autocom powered from the bike and the GPS is also powered from the bike, this cable stops the hum loop occuring.

My thanks..

for all your replies, cheers Gazza, your idea seems to be the solution, cleaned all the contacts and its been ok since.

Cheers

Mick
