SPIII questions

Coupla questions about the Garmin SPIII, if I may.

1 - Can I fit a data card larger than 128MB? If so, does it have to be Garmin branded?

2 - Is the data card only used for storing maps? In other words, when uploading maps should I just fill the card, or do I need to leave room for other data?

1 - Garmin do a 256 MB card, and yes, it does have to be a proprietary Garmin card. There are rumours of a 512 MB card, but that's all they are so far.

The data card is only used for storing the maps.

Waypoints, routes and tracklogs are stored in the internal memory of the unit

As I understand it from PanEuropeans previous posts, the cards for the SP3 are only made by Garmin. There are 256 MB cards available at a cost of £110 (from memory) from Aspids. 256 MB cards come up for sale pretty regularly e-bay, see this one

which sold last week for £99. Where the owner got the RRP of £185 from, I have no idea.

Given that I can get all of the UK except central London onto 128MB I think I'll stick with what I have, for now
