Spinning rear wheel

My 1100 now has about 70K on the clock. It is running original shockers. Recently, it has begun spinning the rear wheel when leant over after applying the gas. I realise this is probably more to do with the angle of dangle, but if the shocker is shagged it would be much more likely to do it...yes/no?

Any ideas?

Panniers mounted too low ??

Got any tread on yer tyre ??

Are you riding on sand or gravel ??

Well..you did ask..... :D :D

C'mon!! you're Really Toni Elias :D :D

He was doing that on shagged out tyres yesterday :thumb :thumb

I think that your gearbox is :censor::censor::censor::censor:ed. It's momentarily jumping out of gear and it feels like the tyre is breaking away under power. It lasts for about 1-2 seconds. It will feel exactly like the rear tyre losing grip. Usually, but not always, in 3rd gear. You now need to buy a new box or an 1150. Seriously.

Although the gearbox is probably on its way out, it's not jumping out of gear; I know what that feels like.

So, what is the lifespan of the shockers? The beginners day on the plain the other week might have tipped it over the edge. The shock certainly felt crap on the way home, although it felt better today.

Looking for help not rudeness ;)

I think Big lad helped - thats probably the fault, it doesn't jumpout of gear, just feels as big lad has said .

But your description of whats happening isn't very helpful.

In which case, will an 1150 g/box innards fit into my 1100 casing?- just seen the one on ebay.

I had the same problem on two 1100GSs and swore I'd never by another 1100. Even tho' the '97-on model was changed, I've heard that they still go. For 100s of miles, when under moderate to hard throttle, the rear shock squatted for one second, EXACTLY like the rear tyre losing grip in a power slide ( Like I'd know what a power slide felt like :o ). I thought it was the rear shock, even though it was a new Ohlins. I kept asking people who rode behind me in France if they saw the rear wheel slide and they thought it was me giving it large. Anyway, turns out the rear tyre and shock were fine and I couldn't induce a power slide even if I rode through a diesel slick with weasil shite on the tyres..... it was the gearbox trying to jump out of gear. Sherlocks might be able to rebuild a box, but short of a new box, it's just not worth the hassle and cost. £1000 plus fitting for a new box, 300 appx plus fitting for a used one. If you buy used, it'd be an expensive mistake to put a used box on to find it's also shagged. That's why I said buy an 1150. I did. It changed my life. :). I wish you luck and hope I'm wrong.

could be the clutch ?

could also be the first couple of inches travel worn on the shock causing the wheel to not stay in contact with the road

could be the tyre worn

could be you were riding on dirt and forgot :mmmm

could be you're a riding hero and need to shout about it :spank

could be anything ? :nenau

Hmmmm

Thank-you all. I will keep an eye on it and hope it's not the 'box. I cannot afford an 1150, so the most it will be is a new 'box.

Its probably the clutch on its way out.
When mine started slipping I actually thought that the wheel was spinning. But it only happened when accelerating hard
