Spoked wheels on 1250 Rallye

Just come back from trip in Spain and Portugal a brand new 1200gs ridden down from Scotland after first service ferry to Santander then second week of trip Back wheel starts oscillating luckily this was spotted by back marker inspection of wheel showed six spokes missing. Bike recovered by motorad Madrid owner awaiting response from BMW. He cancelled holiday went with bike to Madrid and flew back to Scotland bmw first offer was you will have to wait 10 days for new wheel, you can imagine his response to that and he has rejected bike

I’m not surprised he has. That is fucking outrageous.

Still using tubes in r 9 t, was looking at doing the outex tubeless conversion on the rear, waiting until after a long trip now just in case,,i know they are glm wheels, not good on the gs bikes,,

I was speaking to the technician when my bike went in for service I made him aware that mine had a few spokes that I was not happy with and they were the ones that were sorted, he said that the bikes they had seen with more serious issues ie totally loose or missing spokes were all on bikes where the owners had never checked spoke tension as they were unaware that there was an issue.

Yes it is another issue that should not have happened but one that surely justifies BMW making ALL owners aware in writing of potential issues ?

I find it appaling that this is still an issue.

The dealers got notification before start of the summer (my dealer claims they where notified in mid May).

For the spokes to come loose there is only one way.
The rim does not shrink, the steel in the spokes does not stretch, thus the spokes have to unscrew them selves.
For each spoke there is a grub screw that locks the bolt from unscrewing, thus for this to happen the grub screw has to be loose.
The grub screw is secured with Locktight, thus if the dealer checks that every grub screw is tight before delivering the bike to the customer there should not be an issue.

We are talking about a check that takes less than 10 mins.
As for BMW, if they delivered a bike with issues with production date later than may-18 they better have a good explanation.

Why hasn’t a recall been announced, across the board? Does someone need to die before this issue is taken seriously?

Not ideal when they’re about to launch a new bike, and want people to part with their money.

Cleaned my two week old GSA for the first time yesterday and noticed one spoke on each wheel, each side, had a blue and white paint dot on. This suggests to me that either at the factory, or PDI, a technician has been around them checking tightness.
Mine is a July 2018 build.
