Hi all,

Has anyone got a Spot global positioning unit?...or had any dealings with one?

Are they any good?...or just a waste of money?

I do a lot of tours to strange places, all riding solo, and one of these seem ideal for me, for peace of mind...particulaly for my friends and family.

Thanks all.

Thunder had one when he went to Calums road earlier in the year. Worked well IMO.

AFAIK his was just the position one, not the fancy "help" versions.

You're correct, Thunder did with a SPO1 cradle, and I recall :rob .. Bakes also.

There's a RAM cradle for each model, SPO1 or SPO2 which needs a diamond base on the back, so there's no problem about mounting the darn thing.

I have a SPOT 2.

Works very well. I wear it in the pocket on the left sleeve of my Rallye 3. That way, God forbid I take an "over the bars and into a remote ditch", the unit is still with me if I need to activate it's "come get me" facility...

In normal usage the tracking gives my wife the peace of mind that I am ok while on the road - particularly as she uses the SPOT Messenger app on her iPhone to track me.

I have also set the Messenger up so that when I send an OK message she gets a text and an email...

Works for us...

Thanks guys :thumb2

It seemed a great idea. And the peace of mind it would also give to my loved ones seems well worth the relatively low cost of the unit.

I can feel a purchase coming on :augie

So where's the best place to buy one?
