It appears the SS is out in force in Anstruther.....................

The Schutstaffel - that is...... :(

"Christmas spirit off limits as police halt shops' mulled wine tradition"

Christmas spirit...............

"POLICE have used anti-social behaviour laws to stop shopkeepers handing out mulled wine to customers as part of a village's Christmas celebrations.
Traders are angry that officers from Fife Constabulary moved in to stamp out a practice that has been a tradition in Anstruther for 17 years.

They have been told they must apply for an alcohol licence in future for the event, which begins the East Neuk community's festive season.

Police said shopkeepers were sending out the "wrong message" when officers were trying to tackle alcohol abuse and underage drinking in the area."

So - the people of Anstruther are having a nice, nostalgic Christmas......................

(if you remember Berlin in 1939, that is............. :eek)

Mulled wine is shite anyway:thumb

Traders are angry

And rightly so - but the next time they want to whinge and whine about drink causing nuisance, and encourage their local authority to pass laws to allow Police to "clamp down on nuisance", then maybe they'll think again.

An averagely intelligent person might have been expected to have worked out by now that if you give politicians and the Police "powers" - they'll use them. And then repeatedly abuse them. And then they'll come back and bite you right in the arse.

They have form - terrorism legislation used to stop legitimate protest (unless of course you happen to have a straggly beard and long robes and be carrying a banner that says "Unbelievers must die" in which case they'll leave you to it), Serious Organised Crime legislation used to confiscate assets from fishermen.

Argghh. :blast Look. You got me started.... :rob

I have been a cop for almost 30 years, finising up in January, and I still can be surprised and dismayed by the actions of colleagues and bosses. Even if they are in other forces.

There is also a matter that the Police do not have powers under the Licencing Scotland Act as the drink is being given away, not sold.

Looking forward to my retirement?

You bet your life!

Last time I gave the Polis a backhander there wis motors chasing me aw roon the toon.
Didnae catch me mind I wis a wee bit fitter in those days:D

I know a lot of police (in England) and the majority feel as you do i.e. whatever happened to common sense and leaving the police out stuff that isn't really anything to do with them.
If the aim of politicians and senior police officers is to alienate the public from the police, then they're doing a damn fine job.

20 days and counting

20days to go. I am partly out to grass at Edinburgh Airport, till the 29th January.

It is my Training for Freedom course.

Then it will be my new GSA and party time.:clap:clap:clap

No need to jump the fence . . .

Just open the emergency access gate to Hallyards Road and pop up to the Old Farmhouse - I'll put the kettle on :thumb2.

Was that you letting off maroons to clear the migrating geese off the Airfield today ? :D :D :D

Bob.

By the time that you´ve mulled the wine there isn´t any alcohol, or next to none, in it anyway.

Give the officer a sample for laboratory analysis and carry on giving it away.
