Anyone got any good tips on how to polish up some stainless steel. It needs a bitt of rubbing down to start with but has anyone got any good tips for getting a really high polished finish on it ?
Cheers

use a polishing wheel & some polishing soap. special soap is available for s/s but i havn't found it makes much difference. available from old fashioned hardware stores* + specialists.

put the wheel in a drill (fixed drill press is best), turn it on, apply soap, bring piece to be polished to wheel, retrieve piece from other end of the garage.

repeat until shiny :D

*Castles, bargates, christchurch. what a magnificent shop. shame they've lost the brown coats lately though.

Hi G
usually start with wet & dry then wet & dry with auto solvo
then auto solvo on a cloth ...job done
just done my header pipes after 12,000 mls of neglect come up a treat ;) .
Good Tip for bolts is use a piece of carpet, put a bit of auto solvo
on the bolt head and rub it on the carpet.
(obviously not the one in the lounge  )

Polishing

Hi G,
CETEM do some good polishing kits - you can phone them on 0121 749 7080.

As always the secret is in the preparation - some time spent with the wet & dry initially pays off later once you start polishing.

Also do the polishing outside - it makes a filthy mess!

saucepan cleaner is cheapest!

for the final stage you will find stainless saucepan cleaner is less expensive than the automotive cleaners.
Foaming bathroom mousse is also a cheaper alternative to the "muck off" type desoilers available, though be careful as it's caustic based so don't leave it on too long.
