Is it possible to paint on top of stainless steel?

I have Vern's panniers but I'm afraid that the shiny stainless frames could present a serius hazard to other riders/drivers in sunny weather....so I want to paint them black...

Yes, I'm been already adviced to use shoe polish and it doesn't work...

And nail varnish...

And turkish cofee...

Any other ideas?

Try Hammerite Special Metals Primer to provide a surface on which you can paint the colour of your choice.

If the surface is 'dead shiny' (technical term) you'll probably need to roughen it up with emery paper or a wire brush otherwise the stuff wont stick.

Or 'sticky back plastic' type stuff (come back Val Singleton) - Fablon I think - you can get some lovely designs - paisley, flowers, teddy bears - as well as plain black. I use it for making numbers to stick on stainless mudguards - about 2 quid a roll from Wilkinsons.

why dont you do a search and find that wraps company that
Phag but on the board they could wrap your panniers for you
in a design of your choice or the same colour range as your bike once you have finished just peel of and throw away last for five years I think normal road use

Yosi -

Key the surface all over with 600 grade wet n dry then use
this aerosol paint.

Phone this lot up and get a stockist - you won't be disappointed.

( think of blankets and smelly stuff. )

The best stuff is matt black, next is eggshell then gloss.

you can use it straight to metal or for nuclear resistance use the grey primer first.
