Going to stay in a friends cottage in Staithes North Yorks tommorow for a few days.

Anybody been before ?

Know any good places to visit/eat in the area ?

Thanks in advance :beerjug:

Dunno about eating in the area, but there are some good rides.

If you head south from Staithes through Whitby on the A174 emerging from Whiby on the A171, about 8 miles after the Robin Hoods Bay turn on the left there is a right turn to Harwaood Dale Forest, may even be signposted Dalby Forest. It is easy to miss the turn as it is on a decent bit of straight road, just where you might otherwise blast past the slower traffic that has been holding you up since Whitby! It is at the bottom of a dip/just as the road climbs again.

Dalby forest is the place to head for, and there are some really good fire track rides once you get there. There is a nominal entrance fee (I think it is about £3 for a bike?)

All the roads on the East side of the forest are nice and wriggly, and go through some great countryside and are ideal for all GS'.

Failing this, just about any minor road to the West of the A171 (to places like Westerdale, Glasidale Moor, Eskdale, Grosmont, Goathland etc are winners in my book. Goathland is where Heartbeat is/was filmed so on some summer weekends can get busy but at this time of year you should have the roads pretty much to yourself.

I love this whole area myself and have spent many happy hours lost on the minor roads - which makes it hard to recommend the best roads as I am not sure i could find them myself again!

Have a great few days!

We used to stay in a cottage down near the water. Lovely place, plenty of pubs do food in the town.

Nice sunsets

The only thing I could think you would need a bucket for would be to wash the piles of bird shit off you bike in the morning. Unless there's something I missed :nenau
