Are they stainless steel or chrome plated steel?

the standard ones are stainless. the extra price ones are chrome plated.

Is it? The chrome plating on mine is shot and the metal underneath appears to be rusting rather too readily for stainless steel?

So are they stainless right through, chrome on stainless or chrome on steel?

If its rusting under the chrome its not stainless. But stainless tarnishes, quickly going yellow or brown if its a lower quality. That's not rust but is unsightly (to some).
