Ok, now I hope you don't take too much offence to this, but having owned many other twins in the past I found the engine on my 1150 Gs to be a bit of a disappointment, I love the rest of the bike, but in terms of sound, smoothness, torque and power I was not too impressed.... the power is not such an issue but sound definitely was as I believe this is what gives twins their unique charachter..
I tried Remus pipes but they sounded awful, so I decided to modify the standard pIpe, found a link on the net for apartial mod which involved cutting one of the interior pipes but it still sounded crap, so I completely removed the internals inserted a perforated two inch pipe and made a standard straight through race pipe, the bike now sounds miles better, nice and bassy, is lighter and looks standard!!!! but I am am concearned if such a radical mod(plus the Y piece) has leaned the bike off too much?? I know the ECU adjusts to a degree, but will it be able to adjust enough for this??
The airbox is standard but i am to improve the inflow with a K&N and by modifying the snorkel... would the ECU cope with that AND my new pipe?

The truth is, nobody knows. Some bikes seem to be ok, some aint.......namely mine! Get it dyno'd after your done tinkering, for a bit of piece of mind.

Do a bit of reading in the technical section for some more info.

hmmm - its all about flow

and from what i noticed being up close on saturday was that the flow hadn't significantly improved - although the sound has...

see if you can't get it done by august eh?
cheers

exhaust mods

This really intrigues me, because I've built my own Y-pipe with an O2 bung for $20 american. Your and my experiments sound similar. Now my next step will be to modify stock muffler. I also have K&N filter. My bike pop's a little on deceleration since installing my Y. I believe the ECU can adapt if you still use your O2 sensor. I don't believe in the aftermarket chips-crap. That's about my story so far.

Cuznbob,
Have a close look at the Remus Y-piece. You will notice that where it joins the front pipe the diameter after the curve is reduced making it a smaller diameter than the front pipes. Back-pressure is an important part of the GS exhaust system. These "reducers" help this back pressure effect. The length may also be an issue. If your Y-piece is a home-made one and is too far away from the dimensions of the Remus, you may not have the optimum for a good performance gain.
I know, I had a Y-piece made which actually increased the diameter of the pipe. I was working on the larger diameter = more flow. It actually worked against me. The bike ran well, but it ran a hell of a lot better when I fitted a Remus.
Just a thought ;)

Yes, of course I noticed the different diameter and built mine that way, it's nearly identical to a Remus. Notice on the Remus and Sebrings there are differences in the 2into1 joint. The Sebring's is more of a true merge collector design. Sorry I don't have a pic of mine yet but it's definately uglier than either the Remus or Sebring. It's not stainless and not coated yet, just painted.
