Can anyone tell me how easy it is to swap the standard GS screen for an GSA one ? Plus is it worth it (p.s. I use my bike everyday so I'm talking giving me a bit more protection against the winter nasties )
Fairly easy to do. There is actually an adv screen on ebay at the moment. You will need to get the adv "pods" that are needed to fit the new screen as its wider.
I have an adv and when i first used it i found the screen awfull. Worse than the screen on the 1150. However i fitted Tobinators and it now performs well.
You may be better off just fitting tobinators to your standard screen as that will lift it and you have almost unlimited adjustability.
My old 1150GS was a far better touring bike once I fitted the adv screen. Eliminated helmet roll and also takes weather away from your arms...I think the adv screen is 4 inch wider. Checked the one on e-bay and the pods are pictured so you should be ok. For a reference price I paid £80 for a second hand one from a dealer (vgc condition).
I've got a GSA screen fitted on my GS, looking at the one on fleabay it is the same fittings. although i have now fitted Tobinators to mine, as i found the GSA screen wobbled about a lot
Here is the best picture i can find with the tobinators where fitted. without the bottom of the screen almost inline with the bottom of the silver cowling and is/was almost touching
For some strange reason I ended up with both an 1150ADV and a standard 1150GS earlier this year. I have an MRA Vario screen fitted to the standard and I found it FAR better then the (now sold) ADV.
The ebay screen has the side pods with it by the looks of it.
I changed from a vario screen to the ADV screen with the Touratech extender thingy. Brilliant now, far more protection. I think it depends on your build, height and what you want. Some like, others don't. There is not a definitive answer, but the ADv screen makes the bike look tons better too.
