I needs a grease plate for the starter as mine has munched its way through it.

Anyone know if its possible to buy this part or from where I could get one. Could get the unit reconed but as its just the plate which is wrong if I can get one online it'd save a trip to someone with the motor.

Maybe of use ?

Starter

or do a google search on the model No as there is a motorfactors near Motobins (or works) that does spares for these starters but I can't find there website I think the name was woodsman ?

It almost looks like the top off something, come on chaps check those jamjars, aerosols, what is the diameter?

Was thinking of that. I have some thin acrylic which would mean it wouldn't short but would possible die instantly if it came loose.

An old style biscuit tin lid, thin aluminium or something like that, you can just about cut it with scissors.
Make it a snug fit & melt the edge of the plastic where it fits with a soldering iron or hot piece of metal to stop it coming adrift again. :thumb

Grease plate??

Is this the thin plate that sits between the planetary gears and the starter motor armature??

I have had a similar problem. Even with a fully charged battery the starter motor was not revving adequately to start the engine.
The round cover was literally welded to the rotor coil and created nice short circuits.

I have made a round cover from a PVC cable trunking.
Some of the properties of cable trunking are good insulation value and not easily flammable even at increasing temperatures.
Just cut out a disk with a slightly greater diameter (+2mm in my case) and press it in place.
So far it was working just fine for me.
No problem anymore with it since 11 month! :thumb

However I got a second hand starter motor from James Sherlock just in case..
