Sorry to conterdict you but could you have got a bosch starter motor? JJH

The Valeo is still being made in Poland , magnets now mechanical fixed, and all parts are available to fix them or upgrade your original. I have one on my GS.

Euromotoelectrics has them, at sensible prices, and is a good guy to deal with.

There are also no name copies around, Caltric on Ebay had them for $US100- a few months back, and a few others have them at three or four times that price. I bought one to replace the tired Bosch on my G/S

Quality looks OK externally and they spin the motor over faster than a Bosch, Dont know if they will last as long, but at $100- who cares.
