Starting problems

Have just bought myself a 2004 1150GS, I thought I had got a bit of a bargain, it had been stood in a shed for over a year and persuaded the guy to sell it. It runs great but every now and again it wont start, when I press the starter it seems to drain the battery so much the clock resets and it hardly turns over. I got a new battery but that didn't fix it.

magnets probably fell off the starter or the brushes are burned stupid trying to start it with a shite battery

the lower the volts the higher the current required to achieve the same power!!
