I'm picking up a new std screen tomorrow purchased via eBay for a few quid with the idea of modding my tatty std screen that came with the bike.

When I bought my 12GS I thought the std screen was appalling regarding wind buffeting so I quickly bought a Givi (which is only slightly better)

I've just cut 3 and a half inches from the top of the tatty std & I'm left with 2 neat pieces. I'm gonna see what the ride is like with the lower screen with the view to fitting the upper 3 and a half inches a la MRA Vario. This should leave me with a screen approx 1 & a half inches lower but with an angled trailing edge. I also plan to spray the inside black.

Even if it all goes tits-up I'll still have a clean std to put on the bike when I sell up.

Anyone done anything similar?

I cut a NN wide screen down to about 6 inches less than the standard, looks good, gives less buffeting but i do get a lot more flies on the visor!

I think the standard screen is abysmal and the taller screens are even worse, the adv screen is slightly better but the cut down screen is best but it really is like riding a naked bike.

I did that with my old broken MRA screen ie; i removed the movable bits from the top and bolted them to the top of the BM STD screen, Eeerr! not much better. A few weeks latter i was fitting a new visor to helmet cos i had a stone hit it, dam thing was only days old too, so i chopped the end bits from the visor and bolted that on....:D works for me, does'nt look nice but who cares about
looks when you ride a GS:augie i will try and get a pic tomorrow.
