Hi,

Just been down to Moto Sport svcs in St Helens and went through all their new steel gear levers until i found one that matches the original alloy lever on my XChallenge.

I had read on the Adventure sport website that ones off a Yamaha WR, or YZ fits, i did find this fitment this morning, but the one i got is even closer to the original.

It is; part No GP240 which fits a KX60, 84-02.

It`s perfect, and at only £10 brand new it`s not worth mucking about with secondhand levers.

Their phone number is; 01744 612902

Hope this helps someone.

If you make the lever too strong, the gearchange shaft breaks off, so be cautious.

Timpo.

Hi Timpo,

Thats why i have put a cheapo steel lever on so it can bend, instead of the original strong alloy one which apparently is strong enough not to give and snap the shaft.

It`s only a matter of time with my riding ability that something breaks , or i trash it anyway!!

Good move, Dwaine.
Also, original single F650GS bits will fit, although I found the geometry of one I gear lever I tried a little odd (it may already have been bent!)
The levers from the F650GS (origional) work as replacements as well, these may be easier to source cheaply non-OEM.

Hi Dwaine, I've been looking to change mine for the same reason but haven't found one to match - perhaps until now! Apparently Mr Pavey et al change them for those fitted to the 650GS and I was going to do this, until I realised they're not "sprung" at all. Sounds like for tenner these aren't sprung either are they?

Cheers

it's ok, the original 650 GS levers are made from cheese, and while they aren't sprung, can easily be pulled back into shape.

It's just a little hard changing gear when you realise the lever is actually hiding under the foot peg.

The gear lever is actually the only gripe i have with what is a brilliant bike, i just wish there was a bit more protection for it.

Even with the touratech bash plate fitted, there doesn't seem to be a lot more protection offered for it...

Yep the one i bought for £10 has a sprung tip, and as i said before it is almost a perfect copy of the shape of the original one.

I did try to find a secondhand one off a 650GS, but for a tenner for a brand new lever, it just isn`t worth faffing about.

Thanks for the Info DD.

Just got myself an XC and heard I have to do this mod, at that price even I can't complain.

Matt
