Steering Damper Question:

Another non-GS question (my 100GS doesn't have a steering damper).

I removed the front wheel from my 2003 K1200GT last night and noticed that the forks were able to swing left & right freely.

If I tried to move the bars quickly the steering damper slowed the movement.

This thing (the K1200) is so front heavy that it has to be jacked up to get the front wheel off the ground - so I don't often get to swing the bars freely.

Does the damper sound normal (i.e. no damping at slow speed) ?

I suspect it isn't as I took both hands off the bars whilst going downhill on the over-run some time back and got a shake at the bars - normally the 'K' is solid as a rock when I do that.

I am assuming that modern GS' have the same type of steering damper - the one with the rod that passes right through the damper body.

Thoughts appreciated before I start taking it apart unnecessarily.

Just serviced the r850r also has little damper you describe guess what its dumped its oil over the front of the engine during the winter and now feels very much like what you describe I've also been experiencing a bit of a wobble recently and was puting it down to teh new conti's....new damper £170 eak, anybody had experience of aftermarket such as Hypapro which are ment to be better built?
