Not sure how this has happened, but the steering lock has got jammed whilst in the locked position. We can't get it undone- various people have looked at it, though none of them are GSers.
Any suggestions??

I have heard this happens in the cold. Can you turn the key? That will tell you if its a stuck or broken lock. A mate thawed the bits with hot watter and then sprayed alot of WD-40 on it. worked a treat.

This happened to my fuel cap as well.

The above was followed and access was gained 10 mins later!

still knackered

I know- I don't get on the site much...
thanks for the help so far
the lock is still knackered and no it is not the cold weather.
the key will not turn in the lock...

T, I understand from one of my less than totally upstanding and reputable aquaintances that the average steering lock can easily be permenantly disabled by an individual of modest strength by use of a short, sharp levering action in the opposite direction to the one in which the bars currently rest. This breaks off the small metal lug and enables the machine to be removed to a place of discreet shade where further modifications can subsequently be made....remove the key before you attempt this manouevre.

FWIW:
had the same problem on a few bikes (coz i'm tight - and only buy old well used bikes :( )
first - lotsa WD40, then.....
i've found it more use to "jiggle" the key in and out, while exerting a _small_ amount of sideways (turning) pressure.

i.e;
if the key sits at "12 o clock", and you want it to turn to "3 o clock" and it wont.....turn it to "1 o clock" and jiggle it in and out.
move the 'bars as well; more jiggle = more chance of movement.
net result is sooner or later it WILL turn.

hope this makes sense - its far easier to DO than to EXPLAIN
Good Luck.
