After coming out this morning and being a bit disconcerted to find the bars straight, I can only conclude that The Thieving Scum have been out for a shot at mine this time.

Steering lock was wedged on (and did its job, thankfully), but was damaged in the process - it now has about 15-20 degrees of bar-play when on, instead of approximately 2 before...
Is there any possible way (and does anyone have any experience of) an end-user replacement of said steering-lock? I'm going to poke my dealer for a comedy price anyway, but would like to know the Collective's thoughts...

If its reported to the police as attempted theft, if its very expnsive you'll be able to claim on your insurance, but only if reported.

I'd like to avoid insurance due to the long-term cost.

My excess is £350, and for the 3-5 years they keep the claims listed for my insurance would probably go up considerably, and I'd lose my NCB. This is why I'd rather get it done privately or myself.

I seem to remember Marcus getting a high quote to repair the steering lock. Do a search and you should find the thread.

Found that. Ouch.
I can only assume they had to replace the head of the bike for that one, or there was a lot of ancilliary damage - I phoned through to Clarkes and got £100 for parts and £35 for labour, although I did specify that I just wanted the steering lock replaced, nothing else touched.
I figure I can manage with that, as the notch for the locking pin is still intact on the frame.

*Hopeful. And getting the bike looked at tonight.*
