As the title suggests, three of us are traveling from Basel through to Florence on the first weekend in August, we had planned to use the Stelvio pass but have been put off by horror stories of never ending lines of motorhomes. What is the collectives thoughts.......?

You are on a motorcycle.

Overtake them... And the cars.... And the bicycles .....and the old lady, pushing a pram.

Not convinced? Stay in Stockport.

Look for a tunnel, you can then come back here and moan about how narrow it is, the cold, the dark, the fumes :blagblah

If your riding past the bloody Stelvio on your travels are you really looking for someone to give you a route to dodge it in case there could be a slow moving motorhome :blast

Generally the Alps has far less traffic than UK roads, when I went up the Stelvio the traffic was pretty light and it was easy to get past any slower moving vehicles, but I suspect a lot is down to pot luck / time of day / time of year / weather on that day :blagblah we were there on a Saturday afternoon with brilliant sunshine and perfect riding conditions so expected far worse, happy with what we got.

Gonna ride over it again this year, but will be first thing in the morning, so probably cold - but should be fairly traffic free :D

11.45 am not many caravans or motor homes just the odd motorcycle and car, August last year on a wednesday, it might not be like this on any other day, :nenau :D
