I've popped down on a Saturday from Nottingham a couple of times for him to work on my bike
yea it's hard to leave a bike that in that shape on your own

What about riding to BMW Park Lane and take out a brand new 09 bike as a loaner. Think about it .. take in your 10 year old piece of 1150/1100 and take out a modern 1200 for the day.
But it wouldn't be in park lane for a day would it. They'll tell you at 4pm that they haven't started on your bike yet, come back tomorrow and it might be finished . And to make everything ok have a free coffee .
Steptoe on tour - i like that, could sell some T shirts.
Set me up with a ramp and garage for a day and some bikes and i'd seriously consider it.

i also popped my old gsa down to putney for a service and clutch great service if steptoes doing a road trip my boxer cup could do with a service
Why not ride down to him, can't be more that a couple of hours. He'll loan you a bike and you could have a day riding around London, see the sights then back home for tea.

So that's me, Sgt Bilco, Mad Moose, Mutley, Proff and possibly some from Devon and DMC so far.

Guys, i have asked the question and it is a possibility, i have pm'ed Steptoe with the details.
Basically my local dealer (in Kenilworth ) has a ramp in his large workshop, parking, consumables etc etc and is pretty much centraly located to all of the interested parties ie just off the A46 between Coventry and Warwick with M6 /M5 / M1 / M40 / M42 all within spitting distance.
Logistics / details need sorting and agreeing between all parties then could be a goer

For the rest, i need to know who is serious and what works they require to work out time scales.
Example i need valves checked/ throttle bodies balanced/ TPS checked and clutch adjusted for starters. Time allowing fuel filter replaced.
