Hi all,

I am a newbie here and this is my first "tech" / stupid question. :o

The main headlight on my 1150 has an oblong clear piece in the main glass. This is at about a 15 degree angle and tonight I noticed it was blinding car drivers and shining quite high up in the trees on the nearside.

My question is ... is this clear bit of the glass supposed to be level and if it is how do I adjust mine. Couldn't find the destructions in the manual.

Also is it normal for the headlights to "bounce" a bit. I kept seeing them flicker on road signs etc.

Thanks troops.

Jon :)

Someone has rotated the light for touring on the continent. If you have the little technical handbook it tells you how to change it back. Basically you take off the screen and the silver instrument cover and undo a screw above the light. Twist the light until the rectangle is level and tighten the screw and reasemble. :)

As for the wobbling bit.....

Allow me to introduce you to a phrase that you'll hear often in BWM ownership......

"They all do that sir"

I thought they might do as I could not really see anything loose.

My 1150gs is an import,( this may? have some relevance?) but when set up correctly? to dip to the left, the light pattern directly in front of the bike is horizontal, whilst to the left, it is somewhere in the region of TOO HIGH. Plus for night riding it is total rubbish. To improve this I waited until it was dark, & adjusted the beam so that the "v" shape light pattern that it emits is equal either side of central. Much better, hasn't had to be MOT'd yet, but if it fails just humour them & set it up ,then put it back later. So don't be bothered by the orientation of the clear clear part of the lense, be bothered by the light pattern.

Adjusting is a bit of a fiddle, be careful not break off the locating tabs on the rim of the lamp. Loosen everything up fully. You will need to loosen it up enough to wriggle the tab on the lamp past those on the carrier. It will move easily when you`ve got the setup figured :thumb

Me too.
equal either side
That is a good idea, reckon I`ll give that a try

Jon,

There was a post on here some time ago with the pics on how to adjust the headlight dip if you haven't got your owners book. Have a search. If not, I can dig my one out at some point and meet up with you or photocopy the relevant bits and stick them in the internal post.

Well,.... All done. Took the screen and instrument cover off and found the clamp to loosen. Spun it back level and tonight I have fine tuned the angles.
What a difference...... I can see. :D

Jon :)

ps..... thanks for all the advice. :)

Try the level adjustment lever ball joint at the headlight, there is a small socket that presses onto the ball :o and mine was not fully home, it takes a bit of a push to get it to engage fully, cured my bouncing :bounce1
