Good morning all.
New guy - not a native english speaker so bear with me.
My 1150GSADV - 05, 31000 KM - is ill and I need help.
A couple of days ago all of a sudden I could not shift the gears. It was as if the lever got stuck. I took it off, cleaned it and greased it (I ride all year round and thought it to be road salt and dirt). It helped - for a day or two.
Yesterday on my may home from work a noticed a disturbing sound. A grinding noise when I accelerated and a whining/screaming sound when I let go of the handle. No sound with clutch pulled. Accelaration was normal or close to normal. As i parked the bike I noticed a burning smell. Not sure if it is clutch or oil.
Drained the gearoil this morning. Very dark (It was changed 1000 km ago) but no visible flakes.
Normally I would send it to the BMW-mechanic whom I normally use but it has only been a month since he changed my crown wheel bearing - and he is not cheap!
Any ideas - and is it something I should try to take on on my own? I am not new to wrenching but by far an expert.
