Thinking of getting a pair of Streetguard trousers for all year round riding.

Are they too hot in the summer ?

Is the Streetguard 2 cooler than the 1 due to the 'TFL cool system?

i recently changed from the old to the 2, and you do notice the difference, particularly as they now have a removeable lining. You don't notice the TFL system as much in the trousers as you do the jacket, but i find them comfortable enough.

Got Streetguard 2 suit in June this year. Here is my experience:

Fit and design: good range of sizes, like most BM stuff. I got short fat persons trousers and normal size jacket. They zip together just, with a bit of zip left over on the trousers. The jacket is a close fit, like a leather jacket rather than a normal biking jacket. I don't know how this will be in winter, when I'll want to wear lots of stuff underneath. Generally though, the suit feels good on and off the bike. Because of the cut and design, I feel I can wear it off the bike and I don't stand out too much, in fact look pretty cool !

I like the sleeves - much easier to do up over gloves than other jackets. Seem to be waterproof too. I don't think you could wear gloves OVER the sleeves though.
Neck is good, easy to adjust on the go, and reasonably comfortable. I do get a bit of a feeling of something pressing into my adams apple some times though.

Pockets are unusual: there's a double pocket on each side. Watch out you don't think you've zipped something up when really you haven't. Once you get used to them they work well.

Waterproofing: I've worn it in 1-2 hours of heavy rain (without zipping top and bottom together), and it was totally waterproof. A relief as one internet review said it's not.

Temperature: I reckon the TFL DOES work. I was in Spain last month, and it didn't feel as hot as it should for wearing a black jacket. At normal touring speeds, up to about 33C I felt comfortable. Above that, unless on a motorway blast, it was too hot I took it off and went just in T shirt (with loads of sunscreen !) Around towns of course it was too hot even at lower temperatures because of lack of breeze.
More important probably than the TFL are the ARMPIT ZIPs. Hallelujah. These really do make a difference. Fiddly to adjust on the go, but you can adjust them at the roadside without taking gloves off.

Conclusions: top quality jacket. Expensive, but I think it looks and feels good (better than a rukka), and for hot places is definitely an improvement on other 'normal' jackets I've had. Up to you whether you are willing to pay for this. Only one downside: the wrist velcro is becoming crap. This happened on my last BM jacket and on my BM helmet. Get better velcro, BWM !!!

No, Costa Brava, around Cadaques, Girona etc. Windy photo above was near the Camargue - my magnetic map holder got blown off and was run over by a car. D'oh !

Have a pair of Streetguard 1 trousers which I wore summer & winter. Been in the Pyrennees with 6ft snow drifts by the road-side and ridden in 30+ degree summer heat.

Streetguard is fine in all weathers if you layer e.g heated vest in winter with light thermal longs under trousers. Just bought a pair of Streetguard 2 trousers due to expanding waistline; these have a zip out thermal lining which Streetguard did not so i may be able to dispense with the passion killer thermals.

I have the Streetguard 1 trews. I've found them to be reasonably warm in winter with LJ's underneath, and waterproof even in torrential rain. In summer they're as cool as could be hoped for. My legs have been comfy whilst top half (in Cordura) felt like one of those boil-in-the-bag meals.

If only I could afford the jacket (or get the same discount I got on the trews ;) ).

Great trousers, and not too bad in summer.......

One down side though is the lack of any pockets apart from a silly tiny one on the left hand waistband that has a key hook thing in it.....And if you get the suit, you still don't get enough pocketses precious.

Keep an eye on flea-bay I've just bought a jacket at about a third of the new cost :thumb they do come up from time to time, the hunt is still on for an equally reasonably priced pair of trews
The jacket feels very well made and I've always wanted a suit that's externally waterprooof as opposed to relying on a gore tex liner ;)

yes, the goretex is bonded to the kevlary layer, so it's always there. Useful, and I hope this means it lasts longer.
I forgot to add that the material dries out really quickly and doesn't get damp and smelly. Also it is goretex XCR, which is significantly more breathable than normal goretex. This should help in hot countries when you're sweating a lot.

My girlfriend has a Streeguard 1 and she likes it a lot. She had it this summer in Ireland and I can confirm that they are rainproof. She took a version 1 as she is a size S (or a XS, I can't remember) and the Streetguard 2 sizes are "bigger"... She had the same problem with Airflow gloves...

Thanks, will do. I've just remembered Mill BMW were recently selling Streetguard pants at £150 (what I paid for them in March '04). There may be some left?
