I am shortly off to Spain on the bike and have mapped up some routes in the PICOS and Pyrennees on the Garmin software on the PC. I can successfully transfer the base maps of Spain and the routes / waypoints onto the datacard. When the datacard is inserted into the GPS unit, the maps are there but none of the routes and waypoints that I have created.
I believe I am operating the most recent Garmin software V6.5 and 2.8 for the Streetpilot.
What am I doing wrong ? Help!

Both routes and waypoints need to be uploaded into the SPIII itself. Only maps go onto the datacard.

What is confusing you is probably that MapSource can WRITE routes and waypoints to the data card. But the SP3 can not READ routes and waypoints from the data card.

You have to transfer routes and waypoints through the serial cable from the PC to the SP3.

Thanks for the tips. Problem solved. Bizzarre that Garmin will let you download maps but not routes and waypoints via the USB. Serial port did the trick.

That's because routes and waypoints are stored in a separate memory area on the SPIII and not on the data-card. Only maps are stored on the card.

Don't think so....?

When I order MapSource to write routes & waypoints to the data card it seems to write them OK. No error messages at least.

Maybe the command is just ignored?

Maybe other Garmin equipment can read/write routes & waypoints from/to the data card?
