Hi Chaps

How much backfiring is accepted as normal on a 1150gs . I am having strong back firings at high revs when decelerating. it is fitted with y piece of exhaust and probably cat removed but not sure what to check for that . what do i need to check or fix to stop those back firings.
i searched on the forum and some says it might be an air leak at the joint point of y piece with exhaust . some says throttle body adjustment.
what particularly i should be looking for . Best

Hello did you use exhaust paste on the exhaust joints may be simple air leak.
No haven't used because i am not sure what to do. I will try it then. What else u guys reckon it can be...

Check how well the Y-piece fits the end can as the std end can can be really sloppy on the y-piece.

I've had to use a thin shim on mine to make it a snug fit plus a little paste and an seperate band clamp.

I think led like to have this feature on my GSA. Whats involved? A loose pipe? I'll try that tomorrow. JJH

Does the odd pop and bang matter ?

Mine only does it when the air is on the cooler side ..I like it . :D

Not the cooler air the popping and banging.

JJH, I have that feature and I highly recommend it.
On my 1150GS I run no cat with 1200GS muffler, it has a deeper growl with the back firing on deceleration, l like it!!

I just bought a Yoshimura end can and it does pop and bang on deceleration (1200GSA) but it was cold last night when I fitted it and my tennis elbow prevented me from fitting the second spring.

I have previously fitted end cans, but not used paste. Will see what it's like on my ride this morning.

People pay fortunes on systems for a bit of extra growl and looks / street cred.

Arsey spent a mint on his arrow system, your getting a better effect for free.

Leave it be ... ;)

Mine backfired riding along High Holborn.
Some guy shouted out "Man down".
Still makes me chuckle.

It will be an air leak for sure strip the system down and rebuild using exhaust assembly paste.
All the joints are down stream of the lambda sensors so won't poison them.
