During a recent trip out in a thunderstorm on our GSA, we were struck by lightning.
The printed circuit board in my wifes system 5 helmet is now caput!
These system is now obsolete, so I was just wondering if any one out there had an old one that I could buy or does anyone know where I could get this printed circuit board repaired?

I know it's a long shot, but this blue tooth system has worked well for us and we miss it! The new system is supposed to be out any time never!! If any one knows more on the release date, do tell?

The bit on the printed circuit board which looks as though it failed (it has a melted bubble on it) is marked as follows;

>ALALOG DEVICES
ADSP-2189N
BST - 320
354637.1.-3.2
0338

I think my best bet is that someone may have an old system/lid that is no longer used or wanted.

Anybody?

Thanks 'Tuned In'.

I just subscribed so I should now be an official tosser!

I will try that and will post a pic of the damaged part (if I can):)

Decster.

We were on our way to a late pm ferry at Plymouth when the skys turned black and it really pissed down. There was heavy thunder and lightning and it was obviously right overhead. We just trickled on through it when there was one big and long lasting flash and the bluetooth headgear just went dead. We started the system up again but my wifes volume control went from low to unbearable without being touched. We had no option but to shut the helmets off. Mine shut down OK but the wifes would not turn off. We just left it till the battery went flat then tried to recahrge it, but it would not respond. When I stripped it for inspection later, I found a 'heat bubble' on one of the components on her printed circuit board.

We then had three weeks touring Spain and Portugal without being able to converse on the move. Bummer:(

It really helps to be able to chat throughout the journeys and makes it much more enjoyable for madam on the back.

Hopefully, someone may have a defunt system or old helmet they may be willing to sell me so that I can fix our system until we renew it.

Iandavid.

I made up a lead which we used to plug in to our (straight off the battery) accessory socket to power both the system 5 helmets (plugged in to each helmet charging socket). We would use this lead to power up the helmets if they went flat 'cause we had been on the road for more than 8 or 9 hours and also to charge the helmets whilst we were parked up (rallys etc)

Worked fine for us. Got all the bits needed at Maplins.:thumb

Printed circuit repair

I'm not promising anything, but my brother is a self employed electronics engineer, I could ask him to have a look at the offending part if you like ?

I'm in Woodford just down the road from you.

OBLERTONE.

Thanks mate. I would appreciate that. It would be nice if someone who new what they were looking at could tell me if I'm wasting my time or not.

How do we get in touch to arrange for me to drop off the circuit board to you?

Glad no-one was hurt. You're ok in a car thanks to the 'cage' effect, but not sure how this relaltes to bikes.

BMW are making a design change to the proposed System 7 in light of your experience.
