Struggling to idle when stopping

Have checked the coils and all are fine. So will try the spay and see if its the perished rubber if not it must be the current draw......

I would have thought that it would happily cope with the draw from the heated grips (it was after all built with them so the alternator should cope)

The. Only other thing I had on was my 9w x2 led DLR but I would like tithing it would cope with them as we'll?..:nenau

We shall see:D

I have the same symptoms on myrecently acquired '96 1100gs and will check the coils, as per above. Bike runs great but when it returns to idle it coughs and dies.

I also wondered whether my Quill can might be an issue. It appears to be a straight through system without any sensors attached to it.

Edit: Also found water in the channel around the fuel filler neck, so will try and sort that too, plus a new filter.

That checking procedure is for a twin spark 1150 with coil caps.

You have an 1100, which has a single spark plug and normal coil..

Put in a new battery (Exide 19ah - £64 delivered) and balanced the TB's. Seemed fine but decided to take the bike to my local dyno guy who's a dab hand at tuning. Reckoned that I had it pretty close but started from scratch and had to adjust one of the stop screws (possibly a prior owner had fiddled with it).

Good run home, smooth as silk, and all for £24 :)

ABS is next. No lights at all so will do a "gravel test" (well, Toddy on here will :augie)

Right,
Replaced both stick coils and all was ok for a couple of rides although it definitely dips when the brakes are applied whilst slowing for a junction but so far no more stalling....

Started it cold at a local cafe today (it had been sat for about an hour) with no rev increase lever (god Knows what the lever is called) and it ticked over fine whilst I got my kit on but just as I was about to climb aboard it cut out, started straight back up but a couple of times it had a miss, it did however manage to keep running but I did helping with a tad of throttle.

The return ride home it did not miss a beat except the dip in revs whilst slowing to a stop (clutch in brakes on casting to the junction)

Any ideas would be helpful before I pick the whole thing up and launch it in the skip:mad:

It is doing my swede in now. I am off to Ireland in May and need to sorted before then or I will be on the way more reliable fireblade

Cheers guys

Told you in a previous post what to check and it looks like you've still not checked it. LEFT MANIFOLD WILL BE LEAKING. Now go and check it!!!! Very weak mixture = stalling especially when warm.

Your can will be causing the bike to run even leaner. As pointed out to the original poster check your inlet manifolds. The left one will be leaking. Spray brake cleaner around the rubber and you'l hear the revs rise slightly and then it'll falter. Your bike will have a CO potentiometer installed so it would be good to check the reading at tickover. Aim to get between 2- 2.5% Co reading. However if the manifolds are leaking you'll be pissing in the wind.

Hi Skywalker,

You are quite right I did not check it, I think I may well just change them both as a precaution then at least it's another box ticked. I will get some spray and try it one night this week.

Cheers :thumb

is there a chance that the TB need some repair?
or is there some old sensor that could have worn-out?

All done :thumb:thumb

No the rubber manifolds from the throttle body's were not leaking air!!!!! (Should I have shouted that back in return?)

It was the throttle bodies way out of balance, all is now sweet in the stable.

Come on the spring and my Irish tour:aidan
