I fitted a stubby on my previous bike, an 1150 GSA , which was great.
My pal, who has just bought a 2007 1200 GS has decided he likes the idea of fitting one on his bike, so my question is, is this possible ?
I've done a quick search on the topic, and can find no info on anyone who has done this. Is there a "mechanical" reason why this might not be possible.
Obviously the CAT would have to remain, as per the 1150, but knowing the 1200's are a bit more "picky" as to mods, has anyone any advice/info/experience of fitting one to a 1200 GS.
many thanks
Roger

PS I am trying hard to persuade said pal to part with the necessary £12 so he can post his own questions....:augie

PPS and if the answer is "Yes" you can fit one, if anyone has a stubby from a 1200 they might want to sell, I will tell my pal to pay up and subscribe, and then he can buy direct.:rob

I think the answer is no. Not sure about performance but it think it will be very noisy!!!

i think it would be fine. can't see why it would be any noisier than an 1150 with a stubby.

personally, i'm not a fan of the aesthetics, but that's another matter :)

I've run a Stubby on my GS12 with Remus Headers-it was very, very noisy and I only ran it for a few days. No CAT so absolutely straight thro'.
I could'nt live with it.

Thanks fellas -I'll pass on the ifo, and suggest he takes off the silencer and tries it. Which, let's face it, on a 1200 , the stock BM silencer is a bit of a heavy old lump !
On my 1150, the sound from the stubby was, if anything, quieter than sound from the Remus and Y-piece !

The CAT on the 1200 is 1/4 the size and likely much less restrictive. I think it'll be very loud, but do report your findings. :thumb2

The cat on the 1150 is also stamped confirming that it is an approved silencer. Does the 1200 cat carry similar markings?

To answer my own question, I think the answer is "NOT a good idea ".
The silencer was removed today, and bike taken for a quick ride, and came back with the verdict of "too noisy". It wasn't outrageously loud, but enough to be a pain to ride with, or behind, and considering he's going to the Rally in Wales this weekend, he'd probably get pulled over for it by the Welsh Old Bill.So the silencer was put back !!!

On my 1150 the cat was a fair bit bigger than the one on the 1200, so a stubby would not be a possibility. So my pal is now looking for a Zorn silencer ??? I know nothing about them, but it seems to be what he wants :augie
