Reliving bike trips whilst sat at my desk....
Having just re-filled my gearbox and final drive and having had to use more oil than expected, I want to know if I have the definition of "centre stand on level ground" correctly interpreted!! :o

The ground is level, but with panniers are bolted on (too lazy to remove them), so I jacked up the rear end so that the front wheel was touching the ground. I then followed the filling instructions: level with base of threads in the final drive, and only just dribbling out of the filler hole at the gearbox.

Done it wrong? Need to know as I'm doing 250 miles on Monday!!

I don't think you could be far wrong, with a full tank and no panniers, my front wheel would be on the ground.

Just how much did you expect to get in and how much did you put in?

My book says approximately 0.8 litres for the gearbox and approximately 0.25 litres for the final drive.

Nick, I did mine (2003 1150) the other day, & put one litre in, as per the manual that I downloaded from this site. I would have thought you'd have to have the bike parked on a hill before the level could be drastically wrong. Chuck it in, wait for it to dribble out,
that's how I did it, 1 litre. (I.e. 1 bottle)

Envy is not a big enough word. I admire you not only for doing it, but in having to jack in the job as well.
There's them that do things like this :bow & there's me :ymca

How many gigs of memory card are you taking for the cameras. Come on, give us all the lowdown on exactly WHAT YOU'RE TAKING.

Perhaps, as you've said, in the correct forum.................... Then when you come back, you can tell us the wish list for what you should have taken  & left behind!

-Can you please tell me where you are going?
I guess the direction is south this time a year.

WOW!
3 months in the sun! Put SF20 on your nose so it wont age too fast in the sun! The rest of you are protected by the clothes... :P

Bring postcards, showing famous places in GB, to give to kids and friendly people - not all know how to read on that part of our planet, many are poor, and postcards are is easy to bring and give.

And bring some Marmite - it smell so bad so I guess it must bring luck! :eek

Have fun!

I don't have Marmite, but I have Auto-grease. I find thesmell and taste are quite similar! Will this do?

As forSP20,we have some butI don't thinkitwill be so warm: the south is like Norway, in climate, but windier!

A mix of SF20 and Auto-grease, perhaps? :nenau
Then you have something for the nose, luck, and the bike.

If you are expecting Norwegian climate at Christmas you better find some studded tyres, something to remove ice from your visor, and bring longjohns! :eek ...and a small bottle of brandy or Aquavit, for medical use...

Luckily for us this will be the Southern Hemisphere,so it will be spring and then summer by the time we leave. I meant that it is like Norway in the summer....
