stuttering misfire

06 GS1200 - when I accelerate hard in a high gear I get this nasty stuttering misfire feel, it will clear if the throttle is closed slightly and then accelerate more gently.Also when stationary, if I rev the bike there is a popping / burbling noise from the exhaust, it's bloomin awful,it also smells of fuel, trouble is it doesn't always do it, so I can guarantee as soon as I take it to my dealership the problem won't show up.

Anyone got any ideas, the problem has only just started after around 5K miles. I have also noticed a general reluctance to acelerate HARD

sounds like a ht coil starting to fail, the dealer should be able to reproduce this by opening the throttle in high gear as you are doing. the reason it reduces when you ease of the throttle is there is less load on the coils.

Agree wi T900. It happened to mine with the same symptoms a few months back. One of the coils was breaking down, secondary I think.

Secondary plug coils - or a connection in that system.
