Subaru Forester Turbo.... Two questions.

Subaru Forrester.

Hi Richie,

Are you interested in the 2.0L or the 2.5L,what year is it and is it an Irish car or were you thinking of importing one? I only ask as the answers will have a varying degree on the amount of tax payable per annum...not sure about consumption.

Fred.

Fred.

Early forester turbo so 2 litre, seem to go here in Ireland for about 3k Euro at about 100k mlies...

Not looking at importing. But have done so with two bikes.

forester

hey richie,
I owned one a few months ago. great car.
tax is around the 663 euro mark. as for mpg depends how you drive average around high twenties early thirties.
but i would buy one again in a heart beat. great car, great power and bucket loads of space.

Cheers for that, my Disco is going to fail it's Mot soon enough so I will get an irish car. My wife won't drive the jeep around here as it's too big for her and a Subaru would suit the job.

Ie four people traveling with luggage, or three people with dive gear, or one person with carpentry tools.

at 3k euro for the car after two years I would consider that it's paid for itself, and they are known to be reliable motors...

I average about 10000mile a year

. .an interestin' shift from a Disco, Richie. Have fancied a Forester in the past, let me know how it goes. Presently explorin' disused railway trax in my Disco, for which the Forester wouldn't stand a chance!

Will see if it happens PJ. Just thinking about it now. The turbo version goes for about the same price as the non turbo so why not get the whole thang.:D

From memory, I think there is a differwence in the gearing from turbo/normal. One of them has the low ratio transfer box and the other doesn't - couldn't tell you which as my chum who has had a couple is cycling in France at the mo:blast

non turbo

I've got the non turbo 2.0 litre for about three years now. It's got the low range box and can do nearly thirty to the gallon around town and up to 50 on the big roads. If you drive it hard you can halve that, but it's coming up on 27K miles and just getting sweet like a boxer engine should. Great car and only 125 BHP.

I'm a member of a few Subaru forums as I have had 9 Impraza cars to date. I currently have a MY02 prdrive STi. A mate of mine has had most Forester models, I'll get some info from him for you. At the minute he has a 2007 STi one with a fully forged engine. Think its putting out about 360 hp. Different animal to what your looking for though.

I think your after something like this:

Heres a link to what I could find.

Great car the forester. I really cann't fault them. Over €600 to tax a year I'll have a look at my disc in the morning and get back to you but in around €650 wouldn't be far off.

I'll see what other info I can get for you.

I am off to Dublin on Thursday where there are two that I might just take a look at before flying to Belgium for a few days...

I am all over the place with my choice of car, I hate looking for cars as all I want is a reliable car that will do what I need, which is why my list and prices vary...

Skoda Octavia
Subaru Forester

Ford Ranger
Isuzu Dmax
Toyota HiLux

Is what I have been searching so far but I did have a look at a Scenic RX4 recently which ticked all the boxes, but I don't know anything about them...

Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

The Idea is Good But the hassles with immobilisers gearboxes etc etc are horrendous

If you want a relaible every day car that will tow and give Good MPG have a look at a Citroen Xsara picasso

Mine has 210,000 miles on it and it still does 50 mpg on original injectors and clutch

Only 2 design faults that I have found are the fuel pump if it quits means a tank removal In teh last one I measured and cut a hole in the floor and made a hatch for it for my Mates son

And the worst of all as Dear Kyle didn;t let his turbo cycle down after a high speed run causing it to cook the bearings was to get the turbo out with teh engine in place
ZOIKS!

mazda

have you looked at the mazda B series?
[since you mentioned the highlux & ranger]

Have a Forester 2.0 XT. It's automatic so even harder on petrol (only 4 gear ratios!). Usually get about 27mpg (+/- 2mpg depending on driving conditions). On longer trips it will get into the low 30s. Has been very reliable so far (though the radiator may be on the way out now). Had a manual 2.0 X before that. It was about 5mpg better than the XT (averaged about 32mpg). Never gave any trouble. Turbo is great for passing out though, so wouldn't go back

Re ignite the auld thread.

Ok I am now officially looking for a Forester Turbo. Year 2000 - 2003 with max 100k miles and manual gearbox and preferably at least one year NCT.

My problem is that I am working away till end of March which is when my current car will run out of tax etc.

There are a few on donedeal. One 2003 for 5500 which seems a trifle over the top. I reckon somewhere between 2 and 3k for a 2000-2001 and up to 4K max for a younger one.

There is even a 2006 2.5 turbo on donedeal for 6950 but that is a bit too rich for my liking if I was going to spend that much I would get a turbo diesel.

So if anyone sees one for sale that looks a goodun please let me know.

I know you said you want less then 100000 mile but this one here is great value and was ownered by a very good friend of mine in the Irish Subaru Drivers club. www.isdc.ie

Very well worth considering. Timing belt was done around 90000. Always serviced by him every 5000 miles and he sold it to this lad in August of last year I think so he could buy a 03 wrx. That was his only reason for the sale.

It has upgraded breaks, decat exchaust, STi Impreza Wagon Shocks lowering the stance and STi version 7/8 alloy wheels. It has the full whether pack to so heated seats, heated mirrors, AC and a sun roof.

Certainly cheap, at the moment blocked in Belgium. But if it is still there in a week or so will see. Willing to pay more for same year with less miles, also would like a bog standard un changed car.

But if your mate fancies dropping me an email about the car and his knowledge of it that would be useful. richie at cluin dot com
