Suggestions on Towns and Hotels along the South Coast of France

Hi All,

I am planning a trip to the south of France on my 1150 GSA with my girlfriend. We are going on the 19th of July and heading down via the RDGA which of course will lead us to the Mento/Monaco area. We then plan to stay in a hotel somewhere along the coast anywhere between Monaco and Montpellier for 11 nights. I aim to spend up to a maximum of 80 euros per night on catered accomadation not a million miles from the coast in a scenic area with a bit of life i.e. local restaurants. Would anybody recommend a particular town/resort along the coast which suits my needs i.e not to expensive, a bit more traditional French rather then majorley commercialised and not to far from the coast. Also if anybody would go so far as to recommend a actual hotel that would be brilliant.

Also I would consider going slightly inland for a saving/value for money.

Many Thanks Anthony.

Don't wish to disillusion you but the S of France in high summer is very hot, very crowded and very expensive. I did this trip a long time back and after 2 days was all too glad to head to the Verdon Gorges just a few miles N. Castellane is a nice little base:thumb

I think you will be very lucky to find catered accommodation at that price anywhere now let alone near the coast in high season. The cost of living has shot up over here of late just as it has everywhere else in the world. Things will be cheaper nearer Montpellier than Monaco. South of Sete there are campsites almost on the beach which have permanent chalet type things which could prove cheaper for you. The Cevennes, Gorges du Tarn, Jonte, Dourby, Millau bridge, Carcassonne all a day trip from there.
