Suggestions on type & brand of protection for dakar

Recently got a 2005 dakar and yet to take it off-road. It is a heavy bike for me and know it will drop so want to have guards on before this happens. Any recommendations appreciated - viewed so far Touratech engine and fairing guards - also centre stand.

I got my Ali braced acerbis guards from a KTM dealer. Miles cheaper than the TT items.

I'd have a look at changing ya bars to Renthal fat bars too. Much stronger than the OE BM ones. You can but converters for around £35 now from D&K in stoke (the MX shop is in a different location) but I assume most MX shops will offer something similar.

Engine & Fairing guards may save a few scratches on your plastics, but could transfer any forces into your frame, which costs a lot more.

They also add weight to what you already consider a heavy bike.



Wrap around handguards & some off-road riding lessons would be a better use of your cash, IMHO.

I fitted mine to renthal fat bars, but you can buy 7/8 bar fitting kits.

Seriously though, change the bars the standard ones do bend.

Use my bm dakar lower bars frequently (although less so since the uprated suspension) so they are valuable.
Also have the TT upper protection bars but they rarely touch down
