Two 20 kg bags of garden gravel in the side car boot are your friend

I rode mine like that for 6 months it made things sooooooooo much more smoother not having to slacken so much speed for a left hander

Gravel or Sand will work too but gravel is easier brushed up when the bag bursts

Left hander speed is proportional to the weight of yer passenger

Waste of time and false sense of security ballasting the chair.

Learn it as it is.
Learn how it feels going light.
Learn how quickly or slowly it lifts.
Learn to fly the chair on command.
You're not competent or safe as a combo rider until you can fly the chair on command.

Ballast is bollocks because if you get things wrong, you can still lift a chair even with a full sized adult aboard.
Also, you'll be back at square one come the time the ballast is removed.

Tufty,if your going to try one,find one to ride that’s been properly built and set up.
I had one in today that I wouldn’t have ridden,
The thing was flexing all over the place, the chair was fastened to a home made subframe with exhaust clamps,eeeek?

Unfortunately I’ve still not bothered to put mine back on the road so can’t offer it up for a test ride but as Tarka keeps saying, it’s not an overnight thing to learn how to ride one with any degree of confidence but when you do get used to it they’re great fun.

I can lift the chair on mine but I can’t claim to actually enjoy doing it and actively try to avoid it. It’s a neat trick when you’ve got an inexperienced passenger who knows you’re about to do it but best reserved for deserted car parks.

That is the whole problem, our bodies are not 18 anymore, but that thing on our shoulders behaves that way sometimes............ Tarka does have a valid point, but in Jersey they will be fine.
